Building a website goes much faster if you have your content (text and images) collected and organized first.
Do not upload full-size images. Only upload images at the size you want them to show on your website. My images on this site are 600 pixels on the long side (dpi doesn't matter). On my main website at Colin Campbell PhotoArt, the images are 800 pixels on the long side. I would recommend sizing your images in that range.
When using Weebly's website editor (you have to login in at weebly.com to get to it), open your website (blank at first) in another window or tab of your browser. For me, I have bazaart.weebly.com open in another window as I type. After publishing new content, go to the other window and press the refresh/reload button, located on most browsers beside the URL (address) field, and represented by an arrow or arrows going in a circle. Then check to make sure your change looks the way you want it to. If you don't see any changes, it's because you either didn't press Publish or didn't press the Refresh/Reload button on the other window.
Oh, and you know that expression: "Save, save, save"? Well "Publish, publish, publish" applies here!
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important if you want the world to see your work. SEO is a big topic worth reading about and a Google Search will bring up many sources. Weebly provides some tools to help, and you should use them.
Under the Setting tab, there is a section called "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)". Click on it. You definitely should provide a site description and some keywords to describe your site. For this site I entered the following:
- Site Description: Demo Photography Website | Website Instruction
- Meta Keywords: demo, photography, website, colin, campbell, weebly, instruction, photos
Also under the Settings tab (SEO), make sure that "Hide site from search engines" is left unchecked (assuming you want to be visible in searches).
I won't say anything about how I built this page because it's all on the other pages. If I have missed anything important, or if you have suggestions on any ways I can improve this site, please fill out the Contact form.
Finally, if you build a website, with or without Weebly, send me a link to your site using my Contact form, and I'll review it for you. Cheers and good luck.
